Hurricane Hell

So mother nature just redesigned your home via a massive hurricane and nicely stacked all office toys (computer, small file cabinet, chair, etc.) into a nice pile of scraps. Now would be a good time to make sure that you still have the tools and resources you need to keep doing business. A small business continuity plan might be a good idea so I'm going to start a list of things that will be important to have in order to stay productive during a natural disaster:

  • Laptop - Very necessary to keep connected to everyone
  • Internet access card - An internet access card will ensure you have access to the internet no matter where you go. Verizon, Sprint, ATT, Tmobile all have internet cards, rates will vary
  • $500 cash - It's a good idea to have cash in case ATM's are down. In a major disaster, this cash could be used for food and lodging.
  • Transportation - It's important to know how to get out of danger's way. Are you dependant on someone for transportation? Make sure that you have some sort of escape route.
  • Remote access account - Having an account so that you can remotely access vital information

This is certainly not an exhaustive list, specific needs will vary according to the nature of your work. So what would you add to that list?
